Neurodivergent Therapy for Los Angeles Adults and Online Across California

You may have spent years adjusting how you speak, work, socialize, or respond to your surroundings so that other people feel comfortable. Over time, that effort can leave you exhausted, disconnected, or unsure which parts of yourself you can share.

At Weaving Clarity, we offer neurodivergent-affirming therapy for adults navigating burnout, stress, trauma, and relationship difficulties. We provide in-person sessions at our Long Beach office for clients in the Los Angeles area and online therapy throughout California. You do not need a formal diagnosis to reach out.

When Neurodivergent Adults Seek Therapy

There is no single reason to start therapy. You might be looking for support because:

  • You feel worn down from masking or trying to meet expectations that do not fit you.
  • Noise, light, crowded spaces, or a demanding schedule leave you overwhelmed.
  • You recently received an ADHD or autism diagnosis, or have begun exploring whether you are neurodivergent.
  • Starting tasks, managing time, or shifting between responsibilities feels difficult.
  • Misunderstandings in relationships leave you feeling criticized or alone.
  • Past therapy focused on changing your behavior without understanding your experience.

Some people know exactly what they want help with. Others only know that the way they have been coping is no longer working. Both are valid places to begin.

What Neurodivergent-Affirming Therapy Looks Like

Neurodivergent-affirming therapy starts with curiosity about how you experience the world. It does not assume that one way of thinking, communicating, or relating is the standard you need to meet.

Together, we can talk about what helps you feel comfortable in therapy. That might include having more time to consider a question, communicating directly, naming sensory needs, or breaking a broad goal into smaller steps. You can tell us when an approach does not feel useful. Your feedback helps shape the work.

Therapy also gives us room to look at the context around a difficulty. For example, exhaustion may be connected to years of masking, a demanding environment, or the effort of managing sensory input. A relationship conflict may involve different communication needs rather than a lack of care. Understanding those patterns can help us find ways forward that respect who you are.

Support for Burnout, Trauma, and Relationships

Many neurodivergent adults come to therapy after a long period of pushing through. Rest may help, yet it may not fully address the pressure of constantly monitoring yourself or trying to keep up with demands that leave little room for your needs.

We can explore what contributes to burnout, how you notice overwhelm, and what changes might make daily life more manageable. This could involve boundaries, routines, communication, or finding ways to recover after stressful experiences. The goal is to develop support that works in your actual life.

For some people, past criticism, rejection, or experiences of being misunderstood have also affected their sense of safety and self-worth. Our trauma-focused and attachment-based work can make space for those experiences without treating neurodivergence itself as a problem to solve.

Relationships may be part of the work, too. Therapy can help you identify what you need from others, express it more clearly, and understand recurring patterns of conflict or disconnection.

How We Tailor Our Approach

Our clinicians draw from different therapeutic approaches based on each person’s concerns and goals. Attachment-based therapy can help us explore how past relationships affect trust and connection today. Parts work, including approaches informed by Internal Family Systems, can help you understand competing feelings or protective responses with greater compassion.

Mindfulness and Somatic Experiencing may support awareness of emotions and physical sensations, though it is never a requirement or a test of whether you are doing therapy correctly. For clients working through distressing experiences, a clinician may discuss whether trauma-focused approaches such as EMDR are appropriate.

We will explain what an approach involves and talk with you about whether it feels like a good fit. Your care should make sense to you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need an ADHD or autism diagnosis to start therapy?

No. You can reach out if you have a diagnosis, identify as neurodivergent, or are still exploring your experiences. Therapy does not require you to have everything figured out before your first appointment.

Can therapy make me neurotypical?

No. Neurodivergent-affirming therapy is not intended to change your neurotype. It can help you address stress, burnout, trauma, and relationship concerns while building a life that better supports your needs.

Do you offer ADHD or autism evaluations?

This page describes psychotherapy, not diagnostic testing. If you are looking for an evaluation, let our intake team know so they can clarify which services are available and help you consider your next step.

Do you accept insurance?

Weaving Clarity accepts Aetna, Blue Shield of California, Cigna, and Optum/UnitedHealthcare plans. We also offer courtesy billing for eligible out-of-network PPO plans and sliding scale options. Coverage can vary by plan and clinician, so our intake coordinator can help verify your benefits before you begin.

Is online therapy available throughout California?

Yes. Adults located anywhere in California can ask about online sessions. In-person appointments are available at our Long Beach office.
